it tickled and i liked butterfly hitchhiker

I was walking along the trail with Ted my husband when I felt a tiny brush upon my shoulder thinking it was him tickling me with a blade of grass. Oh that Ted of mine is a playful soul! I looked down and much to my surprise I saw a butterfly, so with camera in hand I quickly took a snap but only got a shot of the ground behind me.

Hey the butterfly was till there! Ted took the camera and shot the next two photos of my lovely hitchhiker. Guess what? This charming creature stayed there for around 5 minutes while we traveled the trail, it tickled and I liked it!

butterfly on my shoulder

Say hello to my new little friend!

close up butterfly on my shoulder

It tickled and I liked it!

We had passed a flowering bush a few minutes earlier and three butterflies landed on my belly, they were pretty fast fluttering around and this gal wasn't fast enough to capture the moment.

Looking back at these photos brings me back to that peaceful mindset I had that day! I can't help but smile when I get a chance to view them again.

When you are having a not so good day do you have something that brings you back into focus?

Maybe it even tickled you!

Cynthia – what a tender perspective … how nature can and will bring us back to a peaceful place. There must have been something about your scent or your energy that attracted them to you … how cool. Thanks for sharing. I get back into focus by watching any kind of nature ... birds, squirrels, and when I am really out of focus, I go to the beach to get grounded.

Hi Kathleen, I like that and thank you...a tender perspective! Isn't just wonderful to be able to tune it all out with nature? It's always so calming at the beach, I like to go in the off season to really drink in the smell & sounds of that ocean and gulf air. And oh, to view those spectacular sunsets & sunrises ahhh...

Thanks for sharing how you are able to get grounded!

You had a good camera on hand because those are very clear pictures.

Hi John, We just got lucky as it's not an expensive camera. I'm hoping to get one for Christmas. I spied a nice one at our local Costco for around $269 and it had a zoom & wide angled lens so maybe if I'm a good gal Santa will bring me one :)

Posted by Cynthia Bartch almost 11 years ago

I'm sure Santa will treat you nice. Its important to carry a camera around. You never know what could happen.

Very cute... I can't identify your butterfly... it doesn't look familiar.

Hello my beautiful friend I love your title. Pretty risque. LOL I love butterflies and also birds. It is so fun to watch them. Melts away any stress of the day. Something about the beauty of nature that helps keep me centered. Love your pics and how cool is it they took a ride with you. Must be they knew you have a beautiful heart and would never hurt them. Have a peaceful and serene day. <SMILE>

Oh Santa is always nice to me John...I once got a very cool glow in the dark Yo-Yo! I must admit this was only a few years ago ;)

Alan, I'm sure one landed on you one time or another but you just didn't realize it because of a glittering outfit you may have worn that day.

Yep that's me being risque & racy here for all to read Sharon! You are spot on about nature melting the stress of the day and bringing one back to feeling grounded. Thanks for the kind words and I hope you have a great day today.

The only thing I attract is mosquitoes! LOL Even when I went to the Butterfly Pavillion where they light on everyone, none came to me...I definitely have a few of those photos that take me to my "happy place", and most include my grandson, and they definitely tickle me!

Posted by c m almost 11 years ago

Oh Maureen how observant you are, it almost looks staged you could say;)

Hi Jim to be perfectly honest we were hiking about all morning and I think it was my stank lovely natural essence! How lucky was I that day? Pretty darn lucky I say.

Hello Cheron, Thanks so much, I do like to have fun and capture the moments when I can! I agree nature can give you tons of blog fodder.

Well Cheryl, those darn mosquitoes find me too! I remember seeing the great photos of your cute grandson and I can see how they would tickle you cause they tickled me too!

Cyndee, aren't butterfly wonderful.  We raised and released them when I was teaching and it was magical for all of us, young and old.  If you ever get to Costa Rica a MUST SEE is the butterfly and hummingbird exhibit just out of San Jose.  AND while you're there take an extra night and stay at their lodge.  The rooms are nature inspired and completely awesome.  Thanks for the deep breath and smiles amongst the nonsense.

I'm far from a butterfly expert, but I think that your lovely little friend might be a fritillary of some sort. We've had visitors of that sort in our garden. They always lift my spirits. Thanks for sharing this, Cyndee!

Cynthia, Butterflies are my "sign."  They mean Transformation and when something like this happens, I always feel someone is close by.  I loved these pictures, I had a similar experience on the Cape recently.

Amazing - you must be so sweet!  Nice pictures of you too.  My hubby can't take good ones of me, he hijacks me and gets lousy ones on purpose I think.

I think the butterfly thought you were a beautiful fragrant flower. Or it could have been your guardian angel.

Posted by Chip Jefferson (Gibbs Realty and Auction Company) almost 11 years ago

Now Ginger, that has be one awesome experience raising butterflies and releasing them magical to say the least! never been to Costa Rica, How long were you there? You must blog about your experience! Yes, I felt I needed a fresh perspective yesterday and that is exactly why I wrote this blog :)

Well Professor Laurie I think you are correct! I looked it up and lo and behold there it was, a photo of what appeared to be a picture of my friendly hitchhiker. Thanks so much for the intel!

Hi Carole, you know that is a coincidence you mention you feel someone nearby when something like this happens to you. The place were I was, has some ruins very near and it was a place that held a beautiful but also a great tragic love story. (I hope to blog about that place soon) I felt so calm and so serene the entire time I was was so serene!

Morning there Georgina, I will confess after all these years together, 34 to be exact he still thinks I'm sweet, it's only a reflection of him I'm sure. Oh and I get plenty of those awful photos he takes of me too ;) I just hit delete !

Awww Laura what a nice thing to say my SC friend! Ya know, I sure to hope I have someone to watch over me :)

Posted by Cynthia Bartch almost 11 years ago

Those are some great photos of you and the butterfly that your husband took!

From the butterfly's perpective, it must have believed that it was resting on the most beautiful flower ever (this was my immediate thought and well before I read the comment from Laura).   That is why it probably stayed there for 5 minutes.  :)

I wish you many more peaceful mindset days and beautiful photo opportunities captured on camera like the ones you share with us in this post.

Morning Gerry, What a lovely thing to say, I have to say this post and the comments that followed reinforce what a super fortunate person I am in life! I couldn't believe this delicate creature stayed there for so long...I did sneak a few peaks while it was on my shoulder and couldn't stop smiling :)

Ted captured it right when it opened it's wings, what a great job of catching the perfect moment!

Thank you, I will find those small peaceful moments in life and I hope you can do the same. I'm starting to get comfortable with blogging and posting photos so hopefully there will be many more! As always thank you for your kind words Gerry.

There's nothing wrong with making new friends in nature my friend. I planted butterfly bushes in my Mother's yard when I was in high school and they are now around 8 feet tall and are always covered with these little winged creatures. At least you got to hang out with one for a while.

Posted by JL Boney, III, Columbia, SC Real Estate (Coldwell Banker) almost 11 years ago

Hey JL, it was very cool to say the least and I was surprised the winged creature stayed around so long. I'll have to put the butterfly bush on my list of things to plant.

They like to hang out in the colorful lantana I have planted on the deck, it's either the butterflies or the humming birds always hanging around the Bartch house. I'm never fast enough to get a shot of one of those humming birds, but just you wait one day I will triumph!

Hi Cyn, Well that is so awesome, great photos and a wonderful post.  I think mother nature sends us constant reminders that we live in a world full of wonder. These pictures tickle me! It was so nice to see you, without your crenalins, and read this post today!

Your post reminds me again of that message I heard at my Grandmother's funeral today.  Today was pretty tough for me.  Your post made me remember my Grandmother going out to dinner with a pet squirrel in her purse.  Thanks for that.  And Ted did a great job by the way.  And I have to email you a picture of my friend Debra.  It's gonna tickle you.

Morning Tammy, I'm glad this post could do little bit to help ease your heavy heart on such a tough day. I must hear more about your fun Grandma's fuzzy dining partner! Maybe a post is in order when you are feeling up to it.

Ted did do a good job! Yes please email me that photo, I'd love to see it :)

I usually attract wasps. I much prefer your butterfly.  You can't be very scary. :)
I had a moment like that with a seagull yesterday, who just kept coming closer and closer, until I could touch it, and it wasn't afraid at all.  I think I took 100 photos of it. :)  (maybe it will be worth blogging about)

What a lovely picture - and a nice moment.  It's amazing how nature can keep us centered.

My home office is set up so that I am looking into the trees in our back yard. I often have visitors right outside my window: a family of bunnies, a wild turkey mother and child (the child has been growing up all summer) and an occasional dear.  Whenever they show up, I stop what I am doing to gaze out on them.  It does create a wonderful sense of peace.

Your husband did a great job on that photo.

This post reminds me of the time I had a garden to attract butterflies in Nebraska.  My daughter (then 2 or 3) would sit there with her curly hair and a pretty dress (not too different than your profile pic) and she would "catch" butterflies.  Big azz bumble bees (you know, the ones that need FAA clearance to land) would be fluttering around too and I was so afraid she would try to catch those but I told her they were not nice buggies and would bite if she tried to catch em and she never did get stung.

Isn't it grand to be stuck in a childhood moment every now and then?

Hello Claudette, I always want to say "Bonjour Claudette" when I read your lovely name! Yes, you stated that oh so correct for me, nature always keep me centered :)

How wonderful you have a nature show while you're in the office working away. Getting a chance to watch the young one grow up this summer was pretty special. I see that nature has the same effect on you too!

Well let me tell you TLW, I love me some Clapton singin' a Robert Johnson song!!! I never tire listening to his ax or voice! Thanks for the tune!

Oh by the way I love your hat too, what can I say we gals have terrific taste :)

Oh I love that story you generously shared here Renee, I was picturing it in my mind as I read it! I'm glad she never got stung, kinda amazing wasn't it? Yikes, we have those HUGE bees here in GA also. You should see & hear me trying to deadhead the flowers while running around the yard and yelping. I'm certain a neighbor must have video footage of me lookin' a fool.

Hi Karen, it was an entire afternoon of tender moments that day! Sorry no starter do I have. Does he have a french bread recipe he would share? I used to buy flour in 50 lbs. bags...I was literaly the MAD baker at one time!

You must be terribly exhausted by now with all requests for your friendly presence on their blog. I can't believe you put that out here. Just goes to show you what a kind fellow you truly are!

Yes very observant my friend, I'm a behind the camera person so it was my luck to have Ted with me. My smiley face hummm...that was a nickname given to me in grade school "Smiley". Sounds more like a blokes name as in "Hey have Smiley meet us at he pub for a pint."

As for the ink...IF I had any, a butterfly would not be my style, I'm more of a tribal or script fan ;)

During the summer months here in Oregon at the zoo we have a butter fly exhibit and it really is special when they land on you. The are such light little creatures with such grace, but, getting to go in to this enclosure and see them from all aspects from cocoon to beautiful creature is pretty neat. Last year we actually got to see two emerge right in front of us.

Hi Todd, So sorry for the late response, I've just received an email notifications this morning on all my blogs. AR had been wonky for me the past week.

Wow that must have been fun and very mesmerizing to experience a multitude of those delicate creatures up close & personal. You & your family must have been thrilled to see them emerge from the cocoon, I've yet to see that or a butterfly exhibit, I'll have to put that Google alerts for a chance near me!
