Well it's time to say goodbye to my very yummy friends!
Sniff, sniff. I will miss them terribly when I go make my homemade pizza, salsa and mile high sandwiches on homemade bread. They made my food mouth-watering this summer with their crisp fresh taste that only homegrown veggies and herbs can deliver.

What a tasty and delectable way to add some vital nutrients the old fashioned way, through your food! If you haven't tried growing your own favorite foods this year give it try next year you won't be sorry, neither will your belly. Besides they look so colorful and pretty in the garden bed. Below are just a few types of veggies I grew this year. I grew many more but was too busy munching away to snap their delicious photo!

Then once you nurture and grow them you will be rewarded by using them in your favorite foods. One of my favorite food groups is pizza. Pizza is a food group right? I'm sure of it!
Ok, ok, My name is Cyndee and I'm a pizzaholic. There I've said it and I'm proud of it!

I must leave you now to go eat that one slice of left over pizza :D

Cynthia, I do believe that pizza is a food group. And do you deliver? That looks yummy!
Tomatoes...onions, green peppers, mushroom...magnifique! on pizzas! Never tried cucumbers but blt pizzas are super.
I know it is hard to believe that the great summer veggies are through. No matter how I try I can't figure out how to make a pumpkin pizza :-)
Looks like you make a great dough -- which is what makes the pizza. Yum! May fav is a simple Margarita.
This year we grew tomatoes, corn, chilies (jalapeno and serrano), beets, carrots, zucchini, grapes, hops, and tons of herbs. Thninking about a green house so we can do it all year round. Oh, I have made my own mozzarella too. It's fun!
Wow! You've made me crave pizza! I do love pizza too. I have a Pizza cookbook. That's right. An entire book of pizza recipes. Lots of variety, but no pumpkin pizze in the book.
Hi Cynthia~ I love Pizza too and with almost any fresh vegetable on it. People laugh at me when I tell them I love left over pizza for breakfast in the morning with my coffee! I would have to venture to say that pizza with onions is my favorite!
Hi Susan, yeah someone who agrees pizza is a food group! Dang, if only you were smidge closer :)
Hey Andrew, believe it or not my 'Spicy Delight' pizza creation was very popular when I was in the business. It had red & green peppers, scallions, cukes and a mix of hot pepper cheese and mozzarella cheese! The cukes made it refreshing.Your BLT pizza sounds like something my husband wold LOVE! I'm a vegetarian so I'll skip the carcass ;)
Hi Pat, if you are serious I would make a dessert like pizza. Use a pastry dough crust and experiment. Drizzle some spiced icing on top when it's finsihed baking. Yum!
Hey Marcy, you are right if the dough is yuck then forget about it! Actually when I go out, the type of pizza you order is my favorite too! I've never grown corn...yet that is. I would LOVE a green house, my cousin just had her husband build one and I'm envious!!!
Vickie you are gal after my own heart a pizza cookbook should be in every home! I found a great website devoted to pizza making http://www.pizzamaking.com/ it has all kinds of recipes.
Wow another Vickie, Oh yeah you better believe cold pizza is a great breakfast food, it's one of my favorites :) Yippee!!! I would never laugh at you, maybe they are jealous cause they ate oatmeal. No offense to oatmeal lovers, ok?
There, you did it Cynthia. I know what I'm having for dinner tonight.
Hi Cyn, I love pizza - I did not realize it was it's own food group -LOL!! but I think it is the perfect food! Your veggies look so good, and that homemade pizza looks delish! Our growing season is a little short, without a greenhouse -- I do miss those fresh vegies from the garden!!
Now that's a good looking pizza if you ask me. I am afraid that time is running out of the fresh veggies grown in our area though.
Cheryl, I am fortunate enough to be on here at dinnertime...and I haven't eaten yet :( That pizza looks wonderful, wish I'd thought of it for dinner! I haven't grown vegetables, I just always hope my flowers survive through the summer!
Oh Guru John I hope you get/make a delicious pie! It's one of the best food groups in the world :)
Hey there Mary, Yes I have declared it a food group in my own mind ;) I'd love a green house for veggies and seedlings one day I may just have my wish! I'm always tinkering with pizza recipes, it's usually my Friday night standard along with Ted of course!
I'm telling ya JL, this along with one of those hoppy hand crafted beers is heaven in my mind! I just harvested the last of the peppers today.
Hey there Carole, you snuck in on me while I was typing away! Just start small if you're not sure Carole and you will be greatly rewarded, I promise! Since I'm a vegetarian my summer wold be miserable without my garden :)
Cynthia - I used to have a vegetable garden and now my husband has taken it over with growing giant pumpkins. What am I supposed to do with them? You can't put them on a pizza and I don't like pumpkin pie.
Do you deliver? LOL
Oh my Judy, so sorry you're just a bit far for me to deliver, lol! So what odes he do with all those pumpkins? Do you have a Pumpkin' Chunkin' Contest? This was extremely popular in Delaware not to far from where I lived at one time.
I must admit I'm not a fan of pumpkin pie or any pie except pizza, but I do make homemade lemon meringue for my husband when he behaves himself ;)
Sure looks good. I am not looking forward to our frost soon even though we are lucky it is so late this year.
You know Carol, I'm always sad to see the garden go, those store bought veggies are not the same! Glad to hear your frost is late this year.
What a cute post, Cynthia! Poor little veges... That's one darn good lookin pizza!
Debi
Debi, it's always nice to see your smiling face on my blog. The pizza was very good that evening!
Hi Cyndee, yummy is right! I simply don't have the patience for veggie gardening since our soil is totally devoid of anything good for plants. It's takes constant vigilance to feed everything, not to mention keeping the critters out. We have a herd of deer (15-18)that call our property home and I have given up fighting them except in the front yard with the 7 foot deer fence. I attempted just tomatoes in our first year here but got nothing but blossoms. Oh well, we have plenty of local farmers that sell their produce and I'm good with that. AND PIZZA...bring it on!
Cynthia, what beautiful veggies & a delicious looking pizza! I am so jealous. I can't seem to keep anything but weeds alive in my yard!!! I look and long...and then hold on to hope that my friends who don't kill plants bring their tomatoes and cucumbers in! :-)
Great photos...of the PIZZA! Yes, great veggies...and a fantastic dough recipe (aged pre-cooked dough to add body and flavor) is what makes a tasty treat!! I will check out your favorite pizza link...and see what goodies they have to share! Thanks for sharing!!
I hope I have a few weeks of harvesting left at my house Pizzaholic. LOL My cats are always super sad too when frost finally gets the rest of the fresh cat nip I grow. I try to pick it all and dry it in the oven for them over the winter.
I must brag and say in my climate here I don't have to give up my home grown veggies. When I lived back east I shriveled up every winter in depression for not being able to garden.
I am now cured and is the only reason I love California. I will stay here and enjoy them on my Pizza until the State decides to tax them!
YUM! Its looks very tasty and VERY colorful. Now Im in the mood for pizza and its 11 pm.
Hey Ginger, It's hard when you have to fight the critters for the food :( This was the first year those darn deer came by and took chomps out of my tomatoes & cukes, can you imagine? How rude, they weren't even invited, lol!
Hi Marney, I think you are the smart one here, having friends who grow the veggies and bring them over to you!
Hi Kathleen, I'm always tinkering my dough recipe and yes check out that link it's all dedicated pizzaholics on that site :) I gotta tell ya that pizza looked and tasted great!
Hey there Ana, Oooh... I'm envious and you go right ahead and brag I would too! It's always a sad day when I have to closed down the garden. Oh no, if they tax my garden I may have to turn into an underground farmer, lol!
Hey Tammy, My aren't you the nicest for harvesting & drying the catnnip for your furry friends:) I always miss my fresh veggies when I have to say goodbye to the garden.
Hey John, I swear it's amazing what a picture or commercial can do to our brain cells. It always happens to me when I see food and usually happens after dinner too.
Cynthia -- I love fresh vegetables and pizza....boy is my mouth watering now! Lucky for me, there are fresh fruit and vegetable stands here in Tampa year round.
Well Judy , I'm very envious of your fresh veggie situation to say the least!!! I have met a few people who do not like pizza, crazy huh?
I'll miss the fresh veggies, too. A couple of weeks ago I made Eggplant Parmigiana with home grown eggplant, tomatoes, peppers and basil. Nothing tasts as good as home grown fresh foods
Oh dang it Paul & Diane, I get so spoiled and them BAM, the season changes and here in GA it always catches me by surprise! Oh I love basil, that is one herb I haven't pulled yet, just can't bear too :) I'm harvesting every last itty bit. Your homemade Eggplant sounds absolutely delicious. Thanks for stopping by!
My lonesome tomato is still growing in my topsy turvey, it produced all of 1 tomato!
Oh you poor thing Cindy, I wondered how much those topsy turvery tomato plants yielded. If you were my neighbor I would have sent you over some fresh veggies!!!
Howdy my friend. Pizza is most definitely a food group for me as well as chocolate. I love both. I also love fresh veggies. I miss not having a garden but I have a friend who has one so I got some tomatoes and summer squash this year. What a treat. Nothing like homegrown veggies. I don't eat tomatoes out of the store. NO TASTE to them at all. You made me hungry for pizza. Have a great week. <SMILE>
I love pizza... I don't eat it officially.
I have never had a pizza with cucumbers. I'm using up the last of the cucumbers in a more traditional cucumber dish tonight. My dog has grown fond of cucumbers this year. Pretty photos.
Howdy there Sharon, Yes pizza is food group & so is chocolate, they are two of my favorites :) You got it, homegrown = tasty veggies! I hope you get your pizza tonight nothing like a good pizza to make you feel good...at least for me it's an obsession.
Hi Maureen, I'm telling you cukes on a pizza sounds weird but it on of my best sellers especially in the summertime. The mix of the monterey jack & mozzarella with the other veggies was heavenly. Humm, a dog who eats cukes, that's the first I've heard of that.
I don't even think I have ever heard of cucumbers being cooked. I have been using cukes instead of crackers for hummus and crab dip lately. Not my favorite vegtable... I try to like them.
Well I never did either Maureen, I was a bit creative in trying to satisfy the vegetarian in me and combine it w/ my favorite food group pizza. The cuke still has bit of crisp to it and along with the red & green peppers, scallions and mozz & hot pepper cheese it was sooo good...even to the carcass eaters ;D
I love homemade hummus too, yumm!
Hi Cynthia. I love your pics! I had an abudance of tomatoes this year while my zucchini struggled a bit. I have since replanted some vegetables for the next few months. I like seeing these kinds of pics. ~ Lana
Hi there Lana, thanks so much! I know the neighbors probably thought I was a crazy lady taking photos of my vegetables but if you're a gardener you just can't help it, can you? Nice to read your tomatoes were plentiful! I only have basil left and have not planted any cool weather veggies :( I do envy your climate in beautiful Tampa not to mention the spectacular scenery.
Cynthia,
What a funny and mouth watering post! I love the talking veggies! It looks like you made a very tasty pizza with nothing but fresh ingredients. Thank you for making me look forward to eating a pizza soon! :)
Hi Gerry yes as I stated in my post I am a pizzaholic and must have it at least once a week! The fresh ingredients make all the difference. Hope you enjoy a good pizza soon, food for the soul :)
I love pizza, and I love tomato sauce, but I don't like tomatoes...I know, that is messed up...(I don't care for ketchup/catsup either!) In any case, your tomatoes look so luscious that they almost make me want to try them! Just so I don't sound toooo picky, I think that lemon in my tea is the only other thing I "don't like". =o) Such vibrant colors, the whole thing looks very "Italiano"!
You need to move to San Diego where we have a year-round growing season -- LOL. Well, maybe 11 months. But we have a year-round pizza eating season!
Nice to see your Cheryl, No you don't sound picky at all, you just know what you like. I'm a super picky eater :) Just try being a vegetarian while motoring along highway to a destination, there is nothing for me to eat, I have to stop at grocery store to find some grub. Too bad there are no vegetarians fast food stops. I MUST eat pizza once a week!
Well I'm jealous Russel, I would be in heaven of I had a an 11th month growing season! Isn't pizza such a grand food group? So many different combination's, ahhh....
I do not know how I missed this one but it is mouth watering and that Pizza is gorgeous! We are pizza hounds too and enjoy a different variety of stuff form the garden! Hmmm.. I just realized I have been so busy that I have not had much time to visit your blog and need to catch up. Oh one other thing your new picture is fabulous!
Hey Russell, I know it's hard to keep up with everyone here on AR! I'm hit & miss here myself until the end of the year when it slows down for me. Yep it was time for new avatar, the next one just might be the entire face.
Ahhh...another fellow pizzaholic, nothing like the real deal and fresh ingredients!!! Thanks for the visit, always nice to see you :)
