Photos from the 2010 Hotlicks Bluesfest in Granville, Ohio...it was a red hot & blue day! The temperature that day was mild but the tunes were sure hot in downtown Granville. If you didn't get a chance to make it to the FREE Hotlicks Bluesfest here's a few photos to get you started on your weekend fun.

Big Al Groth from Reverend Raven & The Chain Smokin' Altar Boys was wailing away on stage and shaking things up by stepping down from the stage and going into the crowd.

A fun day for all, even the dogs were shaking their tails! My honey Ted had to cool down after wiggling his hips with a Goose Island IPA, if you like a hoppy beer this is the brew for you! If not, there were many others libations to choose from and the friendly volunteers there helped you steer your palette in the right direction.

The closing act for the evening was Wille Big Eyes Smith. Willie did session work for Muddy Waters and was eventually asked to joined Muddy's band in 1968. Willie played with him until 1980. Here are photos of him that evening at the 2010 Hotlicks Bluesfest on the harp and on vocals.

No other words necessary... you can feel his soul stirring blues through these photos.

Looks like you had a "Grand" time...checked this AND your link to Village of Granville.....can't wait to visit.

Love the photo of the butterfly - you always take the best photos....(heavy sign), I have photo envy when I look at yours.  Miss you, girl.

I loved all your great photos.  The "dancing in the street" made me think of a friend I lost a few years ago.  He used to tell the ladies if you danced with him, he'd change your life.  He could sure cut a rug.

Your description and photos make me sad that I didn't go!  I'll definitely have to check it out next year.

Hi Debi, then you would have loved this gig, there were all kinda styles being played.

Hey Sharon, I could have sworn I heard your song being played!!! " "Oh that Miss Sharon Lee done me wrong and it'll be long, long time before I'm ready to love another."   ;)  Yes I'm quite sure of it Sharon!

LOL, Dot/Peggy, you know one time you will have to sign with all your monikers! The previous photo you are referring to was on of the last ones I took before I sniff, sniff had to leave beautiful Georgia and of course you my good friend :(   Your room will waiting with a chocolate pillow and an adult libation of your choice!

Hey Tammy, If I was better w/ the camera I could have gotten a photo of a little girl dancing like she was the only one there. I tried all sorts of settings but I think I need to finally read the manual :/ I bet you sure miss your friend, he sounded like a treasure to have in one's life.

Well hello there Tracie, I was a perfect day in my book and if you go next year let me know so we can enjoy a few tunes together!!!

Cynthia, I just got back from touring your blog post and listening to Pinetop, Willie "Big" Eyes and the Rev with his Chain Smokin' Alter Boys...I almost forgot to stop here and leave you a comment.  It didn't take you long to find the cool things to do in Granville.  Really enjoyed the music and reading background info on these musicians...very nice music events post.

Hi Nick! I have a feeling this little treasure town is filled full of surprises just waiting for me find them. While waiting for the next band to set up we walked down the street and down some very steep steps to place that was built in the 1800's...the barkeepers swore it is haunted to this day...I'll keep going back to that place!!!

Love me some blues, too...I don't mention this often, but I was born in Mississippi...=o) Only lived there a short time, but it got in my blood anyway! Trinidad, Colorado, where I used to live, and Debi Boucher has blogged about, hosts the "Trinidaddio Blues Fest" great fun, looks like yours was just as much fun! I CANNOT sit still at a concert, good they encouraged dancing!

Cynthia, this is just my favorite kind og post and as a blues fan..it ROCKS!  Muddy Waters harmonica player who was with him in the late 70's & 80's was James Cotton who now lives in Austin and like Willie still plays on occasion!

Hi Russell, seeing and hearing this live was real treat for us!!! Wille I believe played drums for Muddy in the early 60's, he also recorded w/ Cotton. I love the sound of Howlin' Wolf, Buddy Guy, Big Bill Broozy and many others. The new ones  if you can call them that like Robert Cray (I've seen him quite a few times) can get the younger generation interested and then they can discover a generation of treasures like Willie.

I like the old jazz too like Jelly Roll Morton.......

You Austin sounds like you can catch all kinds of great music, I'm officially jealous!!!

Cynthia you've mentioned some more of my favorite too! If you and husband evee make it to Austin and we will make the effort to try and see some music together!

You got it Russell my husband and I would love it,, if we are even down your way it's on the list. From reading your blogs it sounds like you have lots of great places to hear fabulous music!

Hi Debra, it was a perfect day & night!  I can't believe these great musicians were in my own backyard and we had the chance to see them do their thing.

Posted by Cynthia Bartch, Redesigned Spaces; All Round Nice Gal (Home Stager/Property Stylist & more! Granville, Ohio) about 9 years ago

Cynthia,
I love the dancing in the street.  This is the stuff communities all across American should do.  A get to know your neighbor and enjoy sort of thing.  It makes for good neighbors and a willing spirit to cooperate with one another.

Posted by Dee Mayers, San Gabriel Valley, CA about 9 years ago

Morning Dee, I wish I could have gotten shots of the wee ones dancing too, I just wasn't fast enough on the click! I just moved here and am finding this little town so friendly. Strangers actually tip their hat to you as you walk by and they talk to you while waiting in line at local ice creamery. Love it!

Cynthia, Just an unleashed engineer's gray matter at work!  The day job doesn't lend itself to tons of creativity, blogging and real estate let that little gremlin out of his box, and gives him water after midnight!

Posted by Liz and Bill Spear, RE/MAX Elite Warren County OH (Cincinnati/Dayton) (RE/MAX Elite 513.520.5305 www.LizTour.com) about 9 years ago

LOL@ you Bill, I love the engineer's dry sense of humor....I'm just a wanna be. I prank my husband w/ the PC you know like replace the sound properties error sound with Homer Simpson's DUH, install a breaking wind sound when the mouse goes into the corner....stuff like that.

Posted by Cynthia Bartch, Redesigned Spaces; All Round Nice Gal (Home Stager/Property Stylist & more! Granville, Ohio) about 9 years ago

Cynthia, Ha... I like. :)  The Simpsons is one of my favtorite shows!

It's a classic show Bill....heck look how long it's been on the air!

Posted by Cynthia Bartch, Redesigned Spaces; All Round Nice Gal (Home Stager/Property Stylist & more! Granville, Ohio) about 9 years ago

I've gotten to the point I catch most of the episodes much later, streamed off fox.com rather than on TV.  Something about the dual job thing keeps me from having much free time for tv!
